Being busy Fareham chiropractors we’re often encouraging our patients to get a bit more active and change their lifestyle. We feel that one of the best ways of doing this is by advising them to take up walking as a form of exercise.
Benefits of walking
Yes, all you need to do is take up a bit more walking.
Walking is an underrated form of exercise however it is the simplest and easiest way to get more active, lose weight and become healthier. Even better it’s free!
Taking regular walks has been shown to have many health benefits and has been shown to reduce the risk of many serious illnesses such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
Walking is an ideal activity whatever your age, shape or size.
Getting started is simple – all you need is a good pair of shoes. Make sure they are comfortable, provide adequate support and don’t cause blisters!
Remember when you are starting out to take it slowly, especially if you haven’t taken any exercise for some time.
You want to be walking at a faster pace than a stroll to get the health benefits from your walking. That means you are walking at a rate that is fast enough to raise your heart rate and break a sweat.
Remember you should always discuss any new exercise programme with your GP, chiropractor or other health care practitioner before you start.
Are you walking fast enough?
A good test if you are walking fast enough is to try signing your favourite song. You shouldn’t be able to but you should be able to talk.
