Cooking Christmas Lunch Can Be Back Breaking Work!

back care advice from our fareham chiropractorChristmas is a very special time of the year for many of us. It’s a time when traditions come to the fore and one of those traditions is Christmas Lunch where our dining table bows under the weight of all the food on offer! It’s a time when families and friends get together and enjoy a feast!

Of course someone has to prepare the feast and if this is you  then our chiropractors at Homewood Chiropractic in Fareham want to make sure that all that cooking doesn’t ‘break’ your back this year. With so much to do under quite stressful circumstances it’s easy to forget to maintain a good posture and put your back at risk.

Here are our chiropractors’ top tips to keep your back safe:

Let’s admit it most of us stock up on groceries and drinks etc. at Christmas, even more so if we are catering for additional guests! Why not take the strain off your back and order your groceries online this year. If you are going to do the shopping then mind your posture when lifting and carrying. Keep your back straight and bend at the knees to protect your back and keep your body facing in the direction you want to go in to avoid twisting your back.

Store your groceries and kitchen equipment at elbow or shoulder height to avoid overstretching on the day.

To avoid spending hours stooped over your kitchen worktop and placing additional strain on your back and neck, use a chopping board to help you straighten up.

Take regular breaks and do some simple stretches. It can be a stressful time and stress can often be held in the shoulders and back so from time to time check your posture, take a deep breath and readjust your posture.

Hopefully you will have lined someone else up to do the washing up!

We wish you all the best with your Christmas tasks and have a merry Christmas from all our team at Homewood Chiropractic.
