The Drug Free Alternative To Help Your Back Pain

back care advice from our fareham chiropractorLow back pain is on the rise across the world. It’s a sad fact that nearly everyone will experience low back pain at some point in their lives. It is therefore timely that The Lancet journal has recently published a series of three papers which talk about the trends and treatment of low back pain around the world.

The three papers have been produced by an international group of authors including contributions by two people who lead the way in chiropractic research, Jan Hartvigsenn and Alice Kongsted.

The series suggests that in the West, lower back pain is over medicalised. The research also shows movement and physical activity to be effective treatment for back pain.

Chiropractic is a safe and effective drug free treatment for lower back pain. Our team of chiropractors at Homewood Chiropractic Clinic are able to provide a package of care to help our patients who are suffering lower back pain.

If you are experiencing lower back pain then our chiropractors have the following advice:

Keep mobile: As the research in the Lancet shows, staying mobile when you are suffering lower back pain is important. Finding low impact activities that will keep you mobile is beneficial. Walking, swimming and yoga are great activities to try.

Stand up and move around: Sitting for prolonged periods and often with a poor posture will not help your lower back pain. In fact it may be the cause!

Take care lifting and carrying: When lifting remember to bend from the knees and not from the waist. Hold the object you’re carrying as close to your body as possible, face the direction you want to move in and go slowly. If you need to move an object that is heavier than you can manage or it may be awkward to lift and carry then the best advice is to ask for help!

Check your bed/mattress: Sleeping on a mattress that’s not supportive of your needs can lead to back pain. If your mattress is older than 7 years or you can feel the springs through it then it may be time to invest in a new one.

Improve your posture: Poor posture can lead to back pain. You can improve your posture with exercises and stretches. The British Chiropractic Association (BCA) has developed a simple 3 minute programme called Straighten Up UK which is specifically designed to improve your posture. Why not give it a try? We’ve included the video below for you to follow.
