Going To A Summer Festival – Take Care Of Your Back

back care advice from our fareham chiropractorThe Summer Festival season is underway and we can’t seem to get enough of them. It seems that every year there are more to choose from. There’s a festival to suit nearly everyone whatever your age or interests or tastes be it food, music, literature – well anything really!

Around Fareham there are a number of festivals including the Wickham Festival at the beginning of August which is a 4 day music and arts festival. It promises to be a fun filled weekend for all the family.

Whether you are intending to visit a local festival or travel further afield you’ll probably end up doing somethings that may have an impact on your back. Festivals inevitably mean standing around, sitting on hard surfaces and sometimes carrying lots of things – all of which can put pressure on your back.

Going to a festival should mean fun and happy memories and not back pain and a visit to the chiropractor!

With this in mind our chiropractors at Homewood Chiropractic Clinic have put together some tips for you to follow to keep your back festival safe!

Standing: Check your posture on a regular basis and if you find that you are slouching stand up straight. When you are standing make sure that your feet are at shoulder distance apart to give your back an hips the maximum support.

Walking: Think comfort rather than fashion! Wear comfortable shoes and loose clothing. You will thank us after a day walking around!

Carrying: A rucksuck is the best option for a carry bag. However, you need to wear it over both shoulders and adjust the straps so that it sits snugly against your back. There’s always a temptation to sling it over one shoulder which defeats the object.

Drinking: Keep your water intake up to prevent dehydration. Remember that alcohol is dehydrating.

Camping: If you are planning on camping then prepare ahead. You may want to invest in a good quality camping mat to protect your back and an inflatable pillow to support your neck. Before pitching your tent make sure to even out the ground and remove any rocks or sticks, nothing worse than waking in the early hours to find you are lying on a rock.

Our chiropractors hope you have a wonderful time whatever festival you visit this summer and please follow our advice to keep your back safe.
