It’s only too common for our experienced team of chiropractors at Homewood Chiropractic Clinic to treat patients that have been suffering with back pain for some time before they seek treatment with us.
Unfortunately this is not specific to our chiropractic clinic as recent research undertaken by the British Chiropractic Association (BCA)* highlights that 71% of people surveyed with back pain have been suffering with it for up to 10 years.
Even more disturbing was that the survey indicated that 29% of those surveyed stated that their back pain had resulted in them not being able to work.
This corresponds to a worrying trend in the rise of the number of sick days taken due to back pain that was highlighted in research undertaken to the UK Statistics Authority**. The results from their research showed an increase in the number of sick days due to back pain of 29% in 2014 from 7.7 million in 2013 to 9.9 million in 2014.
Ways people seek to relieve their back pain
The BCA survey also asked people what measures they would consider to taking to protect their backs. Interestingly the highest percentage of people at 53% said they would try home remedies such as heat treatment. Other options to pursue included rest and taking over the counter medication. 7% of those surveyed would visit a trained health professional.
