Are Household Chores Calling You This Spring

back care advice from a Fareham chiropractorSpring is well and truly here and if you are one of the many people who’ll be motivated to get out the dusters and cleaners for the annual spring clean then our chiropractor at Homewood Chiropractic in Fareham has some advice for you.

It’s not uncommon for our chiropractors to treat patients who have got carried away with their spring clean and suffered the consequences with picking up an injury. So before you get started spend a few minutes to take on board the following:

Take your time and some breaks

Allow plenty of time to complete whatever clean you want to get done. It’s natural to want to complete it as quickly as possible but in the long term it’s better to be safe. Make sure you take regular breaks and stay hydrated.

Lifting and carrying

There’s usually plenty of lifting and carrying to do, including moving around heavy pieces of furniture. Make sure to keep your back straight and your knees bent when lifting objects. Also keep your body in the direction you want to move in to avoid twisting and always carry an object as close as possible to your body. If you are planning on lifting, carrying and moving heavy objects ask someone to help you if you can.

Using a ladder or step

If you are going to use a ladder to reach up then again think about asking someone to help to hold the ladder safe. When you are on the ladder or sto0l avoid over reaching and over stretching. Never put yourself in a position where you are leaning too far on either side of the ladder. Always move the ladder into a better position to avoid putting yourself at risk.

Watch your step

It seems that tidying up often involves getting untidy! Watch your step as you’re cleaning to prevent tripping over or slipping on objects that are not in their usual place or falling over cleaning equipment or materials lying around.

A good spring clean can make us all feel good as long as we stay safe doing it.
