While the notion of putting our feet up and taking it easy as we get older may be a picture that has been drawn for us as the ‘ideal’ lifestyle, this may not be the best thing as far as maintaining a healthy back and neck.
As we continue to age it’s important to maintain a healthy lifestyle which includes maintaining a level of activity in our daily lives. As experienced chiropractors in Fareham, a simple activity that we recommend is walking.
Why do our chiropractors’ in Fareham recommend walking?
Walking has many benefits and one of these is that it is less strenuous on the joints than other forms of exercise. However, it is weight bearing and helps to maintain bone density which is very important as we age.
Walking is simple to add to your daily routine. You don’t need to purchase any sophisticated equipment or learn complicated routines to get the benefits that walking brings. Simply adding more walking to your daily routine is a great place to start such as walking to the shops or at least parking a further away from the shops you are going to and take the stairs instead of the escalator or lift.
Walking is free. You don’t need to purchase gym membership to start walking!
Walking can be a great social activity. You can encourage family and friends to join you on a walk. There are also walking groups that you may like to join which is a great way to get out and meet with other people.
You can find some great advice about walking in the News section of the Homewood website. Here is a link to a recent post that offers some tips for getting the most out of walking
We also write about walks you can take around our local area of Fareham so keep an eye out for these.
So no excuses now get out there and start walking!
