Summertime makes us more interested in our health and wellbeing. From bronzing our skin to getting our bodies ‘beach ready’, there’s just something about the summer months that gets us energised to look and feel healthy. But while a mirror can easily tell us if we need to drop a few pounds or tone up those wobbly bits, we can’t really see what’s going on inside one of the most important body parts – our spines.
So how do we know if our backs are healthy? Our Fareham chiropractor shares some insightful questions to ask yourself, some of which you will be surprised to discover are associated with back problems.
1: Can you comfortably turn your head and your hips from side to side to the same degree?
What’s this got to do with spine health?
If you can’t, this could be due to a reduction in motion which sometimes indicates joint misalignment.
2: Have you noticed that the heels on your shoes tend to wear out unevenly?
What’s this got to do with spine health?
A slight difference in length or stress on the spine can cause this to happen.
3: Do your feet flare out as you walk or stand?
What’s this got to do with spine health?
Flared feet are sometimes a sign of issues with the neck, spine, hips or ankles.
4: Do you often feel the desire to “crack” your neck or back?
What’s this got to do with spine health?
The need to “snap, crackle and pop” your joints can be indicative of unstable or stiff joints.
5: Do you suffer with fatigue or exhaustion for no other known reason?
What’s this got to do with spine health?
If your spine is unbalanced your muscles can become affected which may result in a loss of energy.
6: Do you suffer from headaches, sore muscles, or aching joints?
What’s this got to do with spine health?
These can be all classic symptoms of spinal misalignment.
7: Stand on two bathroom scales; with each foot on a different scale. Is the weight around the same on each foot?
What’s this got to do with spine health?
One side of your body weighing more than the other suggests an unequal distribution of body weight which could cause abnormal wear and tear on your spine.
You see, you don’t have to be suffering with back pain to be experiencing problems with your spine.
