Are you getting your 5 A Day asks our Fareham chiropractor

Increasingly a number of serious health problems that are plaguing our society are related to diet. Eating a balanced diet can help us stay healthy and eating fruit and vegetables play an important part in having a balanced diet.

Why 5 A Day?

The 5 A Day message is based on advice from the World Health Organisation (WHO). To lower the risk of some serious health problems such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and obesity, the WHO, recommends eating a minimum of 400g of fruit and vegetables a day.

So the 400g of fruit and vegetable is made up of five 80g portions of fruit and vegetables every day – hence the 5 A Day message.

Benefits of eating fruit and vegetables

There are many good reasons for us all to be eating more fruit and vegetables, including:

  • they are an excellent source of vitamins and minerals
  • they are a good source of dietary fibre
  • they can help reduce the risk of some serious health problems such as heart disease, stroke and some cancers
  • they contribute to a healthy and balanced diet
  • there are so many varieties to choose from and they taste delicious

So as a leading Fareham Chiropractor I say, why not embrace it and eat plenty?

Getting your 5 a day

The good news is that there has not been a better time to get your fruit and vegetables for years. Not only do we live in a global world with access to exotic fruits and seasonal fruits all year round but we are also living through a resurgence of organic food, real food and farmers markets.

Fareham’s Farmers’ Market

We’re fortunate in Fareham as there is Farmers’ Market held on the first Saturday of every month. The market is held in the pedestrian area of West Street between 9am and 2pm.

There are up to 40 stalls selling everything from organic fruit and vegetables, free range eggs, exotic and rare breed meats, homebaked bread and cakes, to locally brewed beer and garden plants.
